Kelly S.
American Lung Association of Arizona
Kelly S. is the Director of Lung Health Programs at the American Lung Association of Arizona. Her first exposure to Camp Not-A-Wheeze was about 16 years ago when her mother was a medical volunteer (Pulmonologist).
Kelly went with her mother to help out in the infirmary while she was pregnant with her oldest son, Mac. Several years later in 2004, the child Kelly had become a camper. It shifted his thinking in ways that were very empowering. He learned that his asthma is controllable and it does not have to stop him from doing the things he wants to do. Mac also got to see that there were other kids that had the same experience that he does. It normalized his experience a bit. He is now a sophomore in high school and is very active.
Lung disease runs in Kelly’s family (her father, child, and grandmother). After graduate school, Kelly ran her own business for a few years. When she heard there was an opening for Director of Lung Health Programs, which includes Camp Not-A-Wheeze, she jumped on the opportunity to do this meaningful work. It truly is an honor.
