I am a mother of four children who at early ages were diagnosed with asthma. My oldest and youngest children have severe asthma that has required numerous hospitalizations.
On January 30, 2005, my oldest child died from an asthma attack at the age of 7. Her name was Alexandrya.
In 2009, I created a program entitled Lexie Fest. The goal of the program is raise asthma awareness and funds for the Lexie Memorial Scholarship. I decided to have an annual family event to spread this message of asthma awareness. We have done two events so far and both were great.
I want to share my story with others. There are so many people living with asthma and should they have an attack, many of those in contact with them would not know what to do. That's not good. Time is of the essences. Having asthma can be fatal but it doesn't have to be. As a community we need to come together to make sure that are family, friends, strangers, etc who live with asthma can do just that . . . LIVE!!!!
