Didi G. - "The Blind Side" Miami
The movie impacted many people in various ways, but in my case the movie impacted me in quite a unique way. I am an athlete at HML with many obstacles a day. I am a transfer student and live in North Miami Beach. Every day is a different challenge, I've contemplated just giving up on sports, but it’s my one true passion and it gives me the motivation to do great in school. I'm not able to attend any other school near my house because recently my sister, who is in the same grade as me, has suffered countless asthma attacks. My aunt lives near the school which allows her to be available if any emergency should happen. Although, I can just go home after school on the county bus I stay after school every day and practice my hardest. I play three sports, causing me to be active year round. I don't get picked up from school until about seven at night because of my Mom's work hours. The movie made me realize all the efforts my mother goes through everyday assuring I'm happy and safely at home.
The movie impacted me in such a way that I now appreciate and notice all of my mother's hard work. Every day she assures I am dropped off early enough to eat breakfast at school and not be tardy for class. In the movie, the Tuohy family helped Michael as much as they could to get him into college and be certain he would be happy. In watching that, I now have realized my Mom also does everything she can in her power to make sure we succeed and are happy. What once seemed to me as just a simple ride, is now a result of love and hard work to help me achieve my dream of running track for a university. I now appreciate my mom in a way I never imagined I would. I would like to thank the Chris Draft Foundation for giving me the opportunity to watch the movie "The Blind Side" and give me a different perspective on both, my mom and life.
