Shanise M. - "The Blind Side" Buffalo, N.Y.
"The Blind Side" is a movie based on the life of Michael Oher, a left tackle for the Baltimore Ravens. I had seen commercials about it and I thought it was interesting but that it would probably be like every other biographical movie known to man. It was very, very different.
Michael Oher's life is very different from the glitz and glam he is now surrounded by. He was raised by a drug addicted parent, homeless, and reading in a grade level much lower than his age. Still with the love of his adopted family he was able to grow and develop into a football star. After the movie I began thinking of my own life. I have never lived in the horrid conditions that Michael Oher was subjected to but I know that it could have been me in that situation. My parents work hard to provide me with everything a child needs and could want. Without them I wouldn't be able to write this essay right now. I know they faced hardships when they were younger and they have passed on the values
they have learned to me. Together my Mother and my Father are the reasons behind my success. I owe everything, the grades I earn and the awards I win, to them.
When I heard the story of Michael Oher I thought of my parents and what they do for me every day of my life. Without them I could have been the one strung out, or homeless, or even dead. But with them by my side, with their continued love and guidance, I know that the sky is the limit.
