Nashville, TN. Team Draft will be touring the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and meeting with Director of Oncology, Dr. William Pao. Dr. Pao is a physician-scientist with a special interest in thoracic oncology. Dr. Pao's research focuses on identification of genes involved in the pathogenesis of lung tumors and stratifying tumors into clinically relevant molecular subsets. In other words, his research focuses on the genetic make-up of the tumors in lung cancer in order to improve treatment options for lung cancer patients.
Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive Cancer Center in Tennessee that conducts basic, translational and clinical research and offers adult and pediatric oncology treatment. It is also a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, a non-profit alliance of 21 leading centers working together to improve quality and effectiveness of cancer care.
The Center currently is ranked among the top 10 centers in competitive grant awards from the NCI and its nearly 300 research and physician-scientists in seven research programs together generate more than $160 million in annual research funding from public and private sources.
