The survivors and their caregivers participated in a “tackling cancer” football clinic and discussion at HALAS Hall, the Chicago Bears Training Facility. Our goals are to create a unique experience for participating survivors and caregivers, to spark discussion and the sharing of information between those battling different types of cancer, and to raise awareness on a local and national level about the importance of having a solid cancer care TEAM for all cancers.<more>

Happy Anniversary Team Draft!
(Atlanta, GA) – Chris Draft faced some tough opponents during his 12 years in the NFL, but nothing could have prepared him for the news he and then girlfriend, Keasha, received when Keasha, a never-smoker, was diagnosed with lung cancer. Despite the diagnosis and knowing the long odds they faced, Chris and Keasha decided to fight back, and seven years ago today, on November 27, 2011, standing hand-in-hand, they launched Team Draft at their wedding. Keasha died a month later.

Matt was one of the top fund-raisers in our 2018 Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge and earned a trip to the Taste of the NFL and Super Bowl 52 in Minnesota.

Rest in Peace Elizabeth Dessureault
Dessureault was pregnant and working as a teacher in Fort McMurray, Alta., when she was diagnosed in April 2015 with advanced stage non-small cell adenocarcinoma lung cancer. She moved back to Ottawa to be near family after a doctor gave her a year to live. But she vowed to fight the disease, to enjoy life with her new son, Jack, and her husband, Dax, an RCMP officer and former standout Ottawa Gee-Gees basketball star.
That her fight ended Saturday morning in hospital in Ottawa has devastated her friends and family and thousands of followers who found support and encouragement on her ‘From Lizzie’s Lungs’ health blog and Facebook page.
She was 27.

This unique fund raising challenge gives lung cancer survivors the opportunity to raise funds for public awareness and cutting-edge research that is giving new hope to those battling this often misunderstood disease. The top four fundraisers were awarded trips to Super Bowl LI, the NFL Pro-Bowl, the Taste of the NFL and the NFC Championship.
