Tackling Lung Cancer Reception: Chicago, IL
December 21, 2016
Chicago, IL. Chicago area lung cancer survivor-advocates will join Team Draft for a night of fellowship at the Park Tavern in near O'Hare airport. The dinner, sponsored by Myriad, will give the survivors a chance to mingle with other survivors, and lung cancer experts from across the Chicago metro area.
Jill Feldman, Lung Cancer Survivor-Advocate
Hope is a word that I never used to associate with lung cancer because in my experience there was only false hope, or no hope at all. But, there have been more advancements in lung cancer research in the past 7 years than the 30 years prior. I have options that my mom, dad and so many others didn’t like targeted therapy and focused radiation. That gives me hope.
To educate and raise awareness and funds for lung cancer research we always focus on the alarming statistics and how the disease is underfunded, but those of us who are diagnosed with lung cancer are not just a disease and we’re not a statistic; we are the true faces, the real stories, of lung cancer, and while each of us has our own personal story, we all really want the same story – a story of HOPE!
As part of our National Campaign to change the face of lung cancer, this celebration of survivorship raises lung cancer awareness, gives hope to those battling the disease, and shines a light on the important work being done at cancer research and treatment centers around the country.
Team Draft’s goals are to create a unique experience for participating survivors and to raise awareness on a local, national, and international level by using each dinner and each survivor’s story to weave a broader narrative about the state of cancer and the hope that now exists for those battling the disease.
We kicked off our 3rd Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge on November 1st, 2016, which will build on the success of our established Survivor Series by using the games at the heart of that initiative to create buzz for the Super Bowl Challenge and, in turn, funds for research and awareness.
